The Journal of Best Practices by David Finch

Front CoverThe Journal of Best Practices: A memoir of marriage, Asperger’s Syndrome, and one man’s quest to be a better husband by David Finch

I first heard David and Kristen Finch on This American Life, one of my two favorite shows on NPR. During the course of the show, David and Kristen each described what it was like to be in a marriage with undiagnosed Asperger’s lurking about. It appears that the diagnostic process was helpful for this couple, and following the diagnosis David started learning some cognitive flexibility, and Kristen found some untapped patience and newfound empathy.

David proceeded to write this humorous book about the lessons he has learned (including not to change the radio station while your wife is singing, and don’t just take your own clothes out of the dryer).

This book will likely resonate for those of you living with ASD in the family.  I often work with clients and their families to explore perspectives, find empathy, and find solutions.  We also have a group on Mondays at noon to facilitate problem solving.  For more information on the group, please click here.
