Sit With Us

You know that feeling when you walk into a lunch room and you don’t quite know where to sit?  If you are a middle or high school student, there is an app for that!

Vintage interior of restaurantDeveloped by a 16 year old student searching for a solution to the lunchroom problem, Natalie Hampton wrote an app to create an atmosphere of inclusion.  The app is now touted as one more solution to bullying, something I can readily embrace.  The premise is that students can connect using technology, then connect in person.  Of note, some of the students interviewed in the CBS piece indicate that they once viewed themselves as different in a bad way, and now see themselves as different in a unique and good way.  That shift in confidence and the increase in self-esteem is a great bonus from an app that was originally touted to solve the lunchtime problem.  Try it! See if this is a program at your school, and if not, start it!  You could be the change that is needed in your school.
